Laser Cutter

little known fact: UMBC art department has a laser cutter! My professor and Brendan got access to it, and used this design I made for class to test it. This is done on cardstock, and the one on the right is cut, and the one on the left is etched. If you hold the etched one up to the light you can see its just a bunch of teeny tiny holes in a line. Cooooooool

Brendan bought some cheap acrylic from Home Depot (they only had clear, sadly), and used my sharks to test the laser cutter. It cut the circles and etched the sharks!

I painted the hammerhead and tiger shark with silver acrylic paint to see if that would make them pop a bit more. You can see a slight difference, but on colored acrylic it should look awesome.

whattt! awesome! where is this laser cutter?

Apparently on the 2nd floor with all the screen printing materials?? I haven’t actually seen it myself, Brendan’s the one who has access!

look! Brendan cut my sn&ke out of the clear acrylic! I’d prefer it in color, but I still wear it all the time, haha.

We learned that the tongue is too thin (it chipped off), so if I get better acrylic and try again, I’ll probably remove the tongue altogether.

I also cut my hawk design into wood! I was worried about balance issues/how it would look worn, but it actually looks really cool on a long chain :D

I hooked one of my wood duck feather pendants onto it, but it can hold anything :)

Finally took photos of my spring 2012 work!

For those followers who are relatively new, a friend and I make acrylic jewelry using a laser cutter. This is one of my first designs and it was originally cut just in wood, but we’ve also made a black acrylic variant.

a new design: sharks!

comes in three colors, black, blue mirror and fluorescent green

Jurassic Park style velociraptor acrylic pendants

And for those who like scientific accuracy, here are Deinonychus acrylic necklaces, haha (well, they aren’t 100% accurate but at least they aren’t completely wrong like the Jurassic Park velociraptors :P )

the Lobster ampersand!

We originally had this in fluorescent green acrylic too but it sold out :x
